James O’Connor To Make First Appearance Since Cocaine Controversy

Former Wallaby, James O’Connor, has been named on the bench for Toulon’s upcoming Top 14 clash with Bordeaux Begles this weekend.

The 26-year-old has not played for Toulon since he was arrested outside a Paris nightclub with Ali Williams.

The pair were arrested over alleged use of cocaine. As it transpired, Williams was charged with purchasing and possession of the drug, while O’Connor was charged for its use.

Williams was fined €1,500 by the League Nationale de Rugby (LNR) and for behaviour which will likely undermine the image and ethics of the sport. He was also fined by a local court for the same sum.

It was reported by multiple media outlets in France that Williams had in fact been suspended by his club Racing 92.

O’Connor, on the other hand, escaped without a fine but has to attend behavioural awareness training along with Williams.

O’Connor has a lot to do to repay his employers for his mistake but he can begin that process this weekend as Toulon look to consolidate their playoff position in the Top 14.
