Ireland Secure World Sevens Series Berth With Final Win Over Hong Kong

Ireland have secured a place on next season’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series after they defeated Hong Kong 28-7 in today’s qualifier final.

Ireland began their day of action with a semi-final clash against Germany. It took Ireland until the end of the first half to register their first try through flyer Jordan Conroy which gave his side a narrow 5-0 lead at the break. Germany scored two quick-fire unconverted tries at the beginning of the second half to give them a five-point lead but Ireland hit back through captain Billy Dardis and Conroy, who notched his second try of the game, to emerge 19-10 winners.

In the final, Ireland put in an assured performance as they went into the break 14-0 up thanks to tries from Harry McNulty and Greg O’Shea.
