The Hurricanes fell to a 28-24 defeat to the Chiefs on Friday in a controversial game in Hamilton.
Although the Chiefs won the game, it wasn’t enough to gain home advantage when these sides meet again next week in the Super Rugby quarter-finals. The Chiefs needed to win by 23 points and secure a bonus point to reverse their positions in the table but a comeback from the Canes after being 21-0 down denied the Chiefs home advantage next week.
The most controversial moment in the game came in the 63rd minute when Chiefs inside centre Johnny Faauli led with the shoulder to the head of Wes Goosen, which concussed the Hurricanes centre.
It was a brutal challenge and Faauli was deservedly shown a red card. This was not the only time that Faauli has been penalised for dangerous tackles and the Hurricanes official Twitter account were clear to make this point (in a tweet which has since been deleted).
Check out the tackle from Faauli below:
Esto de Jonathan Faauli a Wes Goosen es, además de roja, una salvajada. #CHIvHUR
