Israel Folau has come under some severe criticism for butchering a golden opportunity at the end of the Wallabies’ 19-23 loss to Argentina which would have won them the game.
It was a day of upsets in the Rugby Championship as earlier this morning, the Springboks pulled off a shock win against the All Blacks in Wellington.
Argentina continued that trend after recording their second win of this year’s competition.
Although the Wallabies outscored Argentina three tries to two, the Pumas got over the line thanks to converting both of their conversions and three penalties.
At the end of the game, the Wallabies looked all but certain to snatch a win when Israel Folau picked up the ball and charged at a weary and stretched looking Argentina defence.
Folau receives the ball and steps around the tackle from a charging Bautista Ezcurra. He then charges towards the defence in straight line to leave space for Bernard Foley who if he had received the ball, would have run in for a certain try in the corner.
However, Folau decided to step in off his right and when he did, he got smashed by two cover tacklers and subsequently lost the ball in contact.
It seems incredible that he didn’t pass the ball to Foley.

Butchery of the highest order from Folau with seconds left on the clock. Cost Australia the game. pic.twitter.com/8NzZEtR6Ju

Israel Folau cost Australia that Test match. Sorry might be harsh but he chose to take on three tacklers when his mate was wide open.. also unsure why the commentators defend that… just selfish football. #AusvsArg
