Last week, the Glasgow Warriors confirmed that Scottish flyhalf, Finn Russell, would leave the club at the end of the season for a “once in a lifetime opportunity.”
At the time, the club wasn’t confirmed but it widely reported and rumoured to be the Parisian outfit, Racing 92 of the Top 14.
Well, it turns out that is, in fact, the club which Russell will join at the end of the season as Racing 92 have confirmed the news today and also published an interview with the 25-year-old who outlines his excitement over the move.
Russell told the club’s official website:
“I had the chance to play six seasons in Glasgow. But for me, for my progress, I felt it was time to change the environment. Like any rugby player, my goal is to win, I want to win titles with Racing. It is a club determined to play as many finals as possible and to win … And who has the chance to do it!
“It’s really my main goal, and Racing has all the potential to get the Champions Cup or Top 14. I can not wait to help them win. It’s a great club, I’m looking forward to settling down and playing with my new teammates as well as working with the coaches and all the staff.”
It’s a huge blow for Glasgow to lose a player of Russell’s calibre and they hope they can also repel the attention on their other star players such as Jonny Gray who has reportedly been the subject of interest from Bristol.
