Dylan Hartley Among Big Names Left Out Of England Training Camp Squad

Eddie Jones has named a 29-man England squad for an upcoming training camp at Pennyhill Park next week.

This will be the first of two training camps with another one taking place at the Lensbury between June 30 and July 4.

Players who are included in this squad do not include those involved in the Gallagher Premiership semi-finals except for Gloucester’s Val Rapava Ruskin and Northampton Saints’ Lewis Ludlam. Rapava Ruskin and Ludlam are two of four uncapped players in the squad with the other two being Alex Dombrandt (Harlequins) and Ruaridh McConnochie (Bath Rugby).

The biggest news is that Danny Care is not included in the squad alongside Chris Robshaw and Nathan Hughes. The trio have combined experience of 172 caps between them.

Dylan Hartley is another notable absentee with hooker seeing no action for club or country thus far in 2019 due to a recurring knee problem.

The RFU also confirmed that George Kruis and Mako Vunipola will be in camp for treatment on their respective injuries.

“The first two England training camps are designed to improve individual players’ fundamentals to allow them to compete for a place in the Rugby World Cup squad,” Jones said.

These two training camps precede the first official Rugby World Cup training camp and that begins on July 7 at the Lensbury.

Jones will announce his squad for that camp on July 4.
