Last night was huge for both London Irish and the Worcester Warriors.
The two clubs faced off against each other in a fixture which was likely to have huge ramifications for who could be relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
The Warriors have been putting together wins of late and newly appointed Director of Rugby Alan Solomons would have been happy with his side putting distance between themselves and Irish. A win last night for the Exiles would have provided a huge confidence boost that they can avoid the dreaded drop but the home side prevailed in a 23-8 victory at Sixways thanks to two tries from Josh Adams and 13 points from the boot of Chris Pennell.
With so much on the line, this game always had the potential of boiling over and it did so early in the second half when Worcester captain Donncha O’Callaghan pulled on Saia Fainga’a’s hair before receiving a slap across the face from the former Wallaby.

Wayne Barnes decided not to punish either player but it will be interesting to see whether either player will be cited for the incident.
That win has put the Warriors 10 points clear of London Irish and just four points behind the Northampton Saints who lie one place above in 10th.
