Clermont Auvergne continued their excellent form this season thanks to a win away to Montpellier where they won out on a 23-28 scoreline.
Wesley Fofana, Damian Penaud and Isaia Toeava all touched down for tries. Morgan Parra kicked 10 points and Camille Lopez slotted a drop goal to secure a victory which sees Clermont go eight points clear at the top of the table.
Clermont have lost just two games this season which is an excellent record considering how often we see Top 14 sides almost throw the towel in when it comes to away fixtures. The manner of their victories is also reflected in their points difference (+165) which is almost 100 points greater than the next highest team.
Today’s match was hard-fought but a crucial moment came in the 46th minute when Penaud latched on to a poor cross-field kick attempt from former All Black, Aaron Cruden.
Cruden attempted the kick despite not playing with an advantage but he miscued his effort which allowed Penaud to pick it off and run the length of the field to score a try which gave Clermont a 17-9 lead with only one point separating the sides before the incident.

To make matters worse, Cruden injured himself when attempting to chase Penaud as he was immediately replaced by Arthur Vincent.
