Chris Ashton To Face Hearing For This Tip-Tackle Red Card Incident

Chris Ashton could miss the beginning of the Premiership season due to a red card he picked up in Sale Sharks’ recent preseason friendly against Castres on Friday.

Ashton received a straight red card from referee Romain Poite for a tip-tackle on Rory Kockott in the 46th minute of the game.

Ashton is alleged to be in breach of law 9.18 (A player must not lift an opponent off the ground and drop or drive that player so that their head and/or upper body make contact with the ground).

The minimum entry point in terms of a ban, if found guilty, is six weeks and due Ashton’s prior disciplinary record, he could face a longer spell on the sidelines if he is found gulity.

Ashton’s hearing will take place on Thursday, August 23 at 1.30 pm.

The Sharks will also have another player facing a disciplinary hearing on that day as Alexandru Tarus was also shown a red card late on in that game for dangerous play in the ruck.
