It’s been a hectic couple of weeks for Ireland and Leinster star Joey Carbery.
Just over two weeks ago, Carbery collected his Six Nations medal in Ireland’s Grand Slam victory over England at Twickenham, at the weekend he helped his side get past back-to-back European champions Saracens to secure Leinster’s passage into the semi-finals where they will face Scarlets.
The 22-year-old has achieved a huge amount in his short professional career and he is determined to add to that this season with his province.
“Yeah they’re a very, very strong team [Scarlets], very strong outfit and they can play from anywhere. They have a huge number of threats throughout their team so we’re going to start prepping soon and hopefully, we will be ready for them,” Carbery told Pundit Arena of the challenge that awaits him and his teammates in less than three weeks time.
It’s not just Leinster that are dreaming of European glory, Munster rubber-stamped their place in the semi-final of the Champions Cup with a dramatic victory over Toulon at Thomond Park. Carbery admitted that he watched that game on Saturday afternoon and was impressed as everyone else with Andrew Conway’s heroics.
“Yeah, watched the game, obviously a great win for Munster against such tough opposition. The standard this year in the Champions Cup is very high so we know we’re going to have to be on top of our game to get there.”
Speaking specifically about Conway’s incredible catch and burst for the line, Carbery couldn’t help but to give a slight dig to his Ireland colleague who has been grabbing all the headlines over the last few days.
“It was pretty incredible, wasn’t it? To even try catching the ball instead of letting it go out was pretty special but having trained and played with him we know how dangerous he is and how elusive and electric he is.
“So I think everyone knew he could do it but for the timing to do it in, we’re maybe wondering if he left it late just to get the headlines!”
