There are always two sides to every story. Bristol fans would have been incredibly excited when Pat Lam was announced as their new head coach back in December.
On the other hand, Connacht supporters were left reeling when the man who was majorly responsible for their incredible transformation was moving on.
Unfortunately for Bristol fans, Lam had to see out the season with Connacht and the Kiwi was unable to have any influence on the club as they look destined for relegation to England’s second tier.
Unless Doncaster Knights or Ealing Trailfinders win the Championship playoffs that is.

Due to the aforementioned clubs refusal to apply for Premiership rugby status if they achieved promotion, they will not play in the Premiership regardless if they win the playoffs – an outcome Bristol fans will be hoping for.
Regardless of the outcome of the playoffs, Bristol fans should be very excited about Lam’s arrival.
The 48-year-old transformed Connacht from the whipping boys of Irish rugby into PRO12 champions in three seasons.
Although the western province have not had the same level of success this season, that should not worry supporters of his new club.
Connacht had an unprecedented injury list during a key part of the season which led them to consistently fielding a number of inexperienced academy players.
Lam is so well respected in Ireland that the Irish language channel, TG4, released a beautiful tribute to the New Zealander.
The video features an excellent interview with Lam, and from just listening to him speak, you get a sense of the pride, excellence and professionalism that he will bring to Bristol when he arrives at Ashton Gate.
