Whatever about winning awards based on the views of commentators, journalists, pundits, supporters etc. It must be incredibly satisfying to win an award which was voted upon by your peers.
After all, these are the people who you battle it out with on the pitch week in, week out, and who’s opinion are probably the most accurate barometer for form and success.
There have been a number of outstanding performances from many players on the 12 teams which make up the PRO12 but it seems that like the players who ply their trade in this competition were almost universally impressed with one particular individual.
That man is 16 times capped All Black, Charles Piutau. In what has been a disappointing season for Ulster, Piutau has shown his world-class ability throughout the season and supporters of the northern province will be excited about what more is yet to come from the 25-year-old.
This is, in fact, his second year being nominated for player of the year as least season he received the same nomination in the Aviva Premiership when he was plying his trade with Wasps.
Piutau didn’t win that award last year but did make it into the Premiership team of the season.

Congratulations, Charles and commiserations to Tyler Bleyendaal and Jack Conan who were also nominated for this award.
