New Zealand newspaper The NZ Herald today issued their player ratings for both the Lions and the All Blacks and they didn’t hold back in their assessments of the players, but one review left fans and pundits bemused and somewhat at a loss.
Maro Itoje, widely regarded by many as one of the Lions’ best players during their second test victory over a 14-man All Blacks side in Wellington, was rewarded with a lowly 4/10 by Herald writer Andrew Alderson.
In the article, Alderson argues that Itoje:
“Looked static at times and dropped ball on attack early. Caught offside in 44th minute as he struggled to acclimatise.”
That didn’t seem to be the opinion of the majority of the supporters as evidenced here:

The article provoked a negative reaction on Twitter as well:

Not one to criticise rugby media outlets etc
But the New Zealand Herald have given Maro Itoje a 4.

BBC make Itoje Man of the Match, NZ Herald rate him 4/10, only bettering Sonny Bill. Understand it’s about opinions, but REALLY??? https://t.co/HS3EA7YQDu

It seems few people in the rugby universe agree with the Herald on this one. 4/10 for their efforts.
