Toulon captain Mathieu Bastareaud will be lucky to escape a lengthy suspension following a red card for a dangerous and deliberate forearm to a Castres player during the Top 14 clash between the two French sides.
Bastareaud clearly struck Castres’ Christophe Samson with a dangerous forearm in what was a moment of madness from the captain.
The French international was not happy with Samson’s tackle on his teammate Gérondeau and it appeared as though that is what led to Bastareaud lashing out.

Despite the red card Toulon went on to defeat their Top 14 rivals but the sending off will likely see Bastareaud missing an extended period of time which would be a big blow for the team.
The incident also clearly appalled the Sky Sports commentators who were covering the game, as they referred to the strike as “bordering on assault”
