Just four days after his sacking by Leicester Tigers, Richard Cockerill has been drafted into the coaching staff at Toulon by head coach Mike Ford.
The announcement from the three time European champions reveals that Cockerill will join the coaching staff in a consultancy role until the end of the season where he will be working alongside Marc del Maso and Steve Meehan.
Cockerill left Tigers on Monday following their defeat to Saracens at Welford Road, their fifth of the season. While incumbent head coach Aaron Mauger paid tribute to his former Director of Rugby, much of the rugby world suggested that Cockerill would not be without employment in the game for long.
Few could have expected such an immediate offer however, as Ford, former head coach of Leicester’s old adversaries Bath, snapped up the chance to bring another Englishman to the Cote d’Azur.
Toulon currently sit fourth in the Top 14 with a huge game on Sunday against league leaders Clermont.
