Leinster’s success over the past 10 years since they won their first Heineken Cup in 2009 has seen the support of club grow exponentially.
Ten years on and Leinster stand on the brink of a fifth Heineken Champions Cup and becoming the most successful rugby side in Europe.
But it wasn’t always like that…
Current kicking coach and head analyst, Emmet Farrell was once a Leinster representative back in the days before they were one of the continents top clubs. Having seen both sides to the history of the club he is more qualified than anyone to speak about it.
“When I first started playing for Leinster you wouldn’t have seen somebody wearing a Leinster jersey around, you know, outside of on the field, they just wouldn’t wear Leinster gear.
“Now you’re driving around and you see a Leinster hate or a Leinster jumper or top, you see kids wearing Leinster jerseys when they are running around.
“You do feel pride that Leinster have grown so much in the consciousness of the public.”
Of course, Leinster would never have reached the heights they have without the fans and that is why they are the subject in the third part of our series in association with Energia, ‘The Power Behind Leinster’.
