South African Winger Charged With Multiple Anti-Doping Offences

Springboks winger Aphiwe Dyantyi has been dealt a blow with the news that his B-sample which was tested for banned substances came back positive according to sources.

The South African Institute for Drug Free Sport have confirmed the news. This follows Dyantyi testing positive for a prohibited substance on July 2.

The 2018 World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year, who currently plays for the Lions in Super Rugby, had his B-sample tested at the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory at the University of the Free State. The test confirmed the banned substances that were found in his A-sample: methandienone, methyltestosterone and LGD-4033.

He has now been charged with multiple anabolic steroids and metabolites doping offences and must decide whether or not to fight the charge.

The Springbok was not included in South Africa’s squad for the Rugby World Cup, were the Springboks will play New Zealand, Italy, Namibia and Canada.
