Watch: Emotional Scenes At Murrayfield As Former Scotland Lock Doddie Weir Delivers Match Ball

There were emotional scenes at Murrayfield today before Scotland’s thrilling clash with New Zealand as former Scotland lock Doddie Weir who is battling MND, delivered the match ball.

The former British and Irish Lion, Newcastle Falcons and Borders star who earned 61 caps during a stellar ten year international career, was diagnosed this year with Motor Neurone disease and has won widespread praise for the brave way he is tackling the disease, including setting up his own foundation to research and raise funds for sufferers of MND.

Entering the field alongside his three sons to rapturous applause from the capacity 67,000 crowd, the 47 year-old fights back the tears in a spine-tingling moment.

Clearly moved by the amazing reception, the Scottish legend is greeted by All Blacks skipper Kieran Read, referee Matthew Carley, Scotland fly-half Finn Russell and All Blacks pivot Beauden Barrett.

Before raising the ball in acknowledgment towards the crowd and handing the ball over to Barrett and leaving the field to amazing applause, in one of the most emotional scenes Murrayfield has ever seen.
