Connacht overcame their disappointment against Edinburgh last week to see off Scarlets at the Glaway Sportsground.

The Welsh visitors had gained victories over Benetton and even champions Leinster in recent fixtures, but were undone on Saturday against a home team boasting players like Jack Carty and Tom Farrell who were in top form.

It was Thomas Farrell who got the Irish province on the board with a fifth minute try, having been sent through by Bundee Aki.

Leigh Halfpenny and Carty exchanged kicks to make it 10-6 midway through the first half. It was then that Cian Kelleher exploded over the line from the left to extend their lead.

Johnny McNicholl replied with a try of his own on the half hour mark to cut the gap to four, but another Carty penalty had Connacht seven points to the good at the break.

The lead was extended to 13 via two Carty penalties, which were the only point-scoring actions to speak of before the final ten minutes, which really caught fire.

Tom Prydie sprinted for the away side, who after a conversion were 26-20 down with eight minutes left to salvage something.

It was left to substitute Niyi Adeolokun to put the game beyond Scarlets, and the converted try would prove to be the final score of the game, which ended 33-20 in favour of Connacht.

Connacht are now second in the Pro14 table behind Glasgow Warriors.
