Bristol Bears Join The Trend, Name Eight ‘Impact Players’ In Squad

Bristol Bears have announced the 23-man squad they’re going with for their Premiership opener against Bath tomorrow and the biggest eye-catcher has nothing to do with the players selected.

After the rather bizarre trend that seen several high-profile clubs rename the various roles that make up their match-day squad, Bristol Bears have managed to come through with a 23-man squad that includes eight ‘impact players’.

First, Eddie Jones and his ‘finishers’, then Harlequins and their ‘game-changers‘ and now, we have yet another bizarre mixup for an established term within the sport.

It’s hard to understand exactly what the expected effect renaming the subs will have, but either way, it’s still pretty funny to see one of the stranger trends of the continue to make the headlines.
