Andy Goode Column: Martin Castrogiovanni, Las Vegas, And Dodgy Dance Moves

Martin Castrogiovanni made the headlines last week for all the wrong reasons, after he was pictured partying with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Las Vegas, while Racing Metro were playing Leicester Tigers in the semi-final of the European Champions Cup.

Castro is a great character and I know him very well.

I think what is being reported is slightly misunderstood, as he wasn’t involved in the game at all. He didn’t choose not to play, as he wasn’t on the bench.

He chose not to travel to Nottingham to support his team as a wider member of the squad.

It’s not right. It’s a team sport we play, if everyone is going to Nottingham to support the team, everyone should be there.

But how hard is it to turn down Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Vegas? It is a cheeky three or four days away when you’re not picked to play anyway.

I know Castro is a very emotional guy and he would have been annoyed that he wasn’t getting the chance to play against Leicester, a club he says he loves and spent a lot of time at and he wasn’t going to be involved in the match day squad.

So you know his Italian/Argentinian blood came through and he said “‘eff’ this, I’m off to Vegas with Zlatan and the PSG boys and going to have a good time.”

Listen it’s not right but how many people would have turned that opportunity down?

However, Castro has never been able to dance. He’s a big man, a lovely guy but a horrible mess.

But keep your top on, mate! That’s what I do!

I was asked to mention in this piece who I think are the best and worst dancers I’ve ever come across. That’s a good question actually.

I suppose the best has got to be Geordan Murphy. He had twinkling toes on the rugby field which translated into some decent moves on the dance floor too.

Jim Hamilton, second row at Sarries, had absolutely zero dance moves. He’s uncoordinated, six foot six or whatever he is, an absolute Neanderthal. He’s a hell of a guy, top guy, but just looked awkward and had no dress sense either to add to it.
