Australian rugby have received a huge boost with the news that Kurtley Beale has signed on with the NSW Waratahs for another season.

Beale’s contract will keep him in Australia until the end of the 2020 season.

The 30-year-old’s desire to remain with the Sydney based franchise will come as a huge relief to officials in Rugby Australia as many of the Wallabies’ top-stars are heading overseas after the World Cup.

Will Genia, David Pocock, Samu Kerevi, Bernard Foley and Sekope Kepu have all confirmed they will be leaving Australia once the tournament in Japan has finished.

With just two Rugby Championships and one Super Rugby title to Beale’s name since he began his professional career in 2007, winning more silverware in his home country contributed to his decision to stay.

“Obviously, World Cup years bring about change and we’re in an exciting period here at the Waratahs with some exciting young players and a new coach to be appointed,” Beale said.

“To be able to play a part in that journey is exciting, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve in 2020.”

Beale continued:

“I’ve spent the vast majority of my career here in NSW representing the Waratahs, it’s been an honour and something I’ll always be thankful for,” Beale said.

“To represent your home state in a competition like Super Rugby, having made wonderful memories and friends is really special; I’m looking forward to building on that in 2020.”
