Watch: Padraig Harrington Plays ‘Utterly Brilliant Shot’ From Horribly Awkward Lie

After shooting an impressive and bogey free 65 in his first round at the Turkish Airlines Open yesterday, Padraig Harrington shot a slightly disappointing 72 today.

Harrington’s 65 left him just one shot off the lead at the end of play on Thursday, but the 46-year-old Dubliner now finds himself some nine shots behind Nicolas Colsaerts, who sits in pole position after shooting back-to-back 64’s at the Regnum Carya Golf Course in Antalya.

While his round might not have been brilliant overall, Harrington did produce a moment of pure magic on his second hole. After an errant tee shot left him with a horribly awkward lie right up against a tree to the left of the green, Harrington somehow saved par – chipping to within a few feet of the hole while leaning against said tree before sinking the routine putt that he had somehow left himself.

“Utterly brilliant,” is how the the Sky Sports commentary team described it and it’s hard to disagree with that assessment.

Harrington, now -5, sits tied in thirteenth place in the tournament with nine other players, one of whom is countryman Paul Dunne. Another Irishman, Shane Lowry, is currently tied for fourth at -8. England’s Eddie Pepperell is closest to Colsaert on -10.
