Speaking to DublinLive about his preparation and motivation ahead of the huge fight, Conlan discussed that the thoughts of a better life for him and his family as an influential factor:
“The thought of winning and just giving them a better life. And I know I will. So I’ve got to keep putting the hard work in, and my body is sore because I work my butt off every day. I am sparring world champions and world title contenders, so every day is tough.”
Conlan went on to discuss the importance of his debut and the impact of it falling on Ireland’s national holiday.
“It is one of the biggest debuts in professional boxing history. Being from Ireland, fighting at Madison Square Garden on St Patrick’s Day, it is huge. I love that pressure. I thrive on it.
“That’s what I love. Every single fighter would dream of this kind of debut. It is something you never hear of. This is Ireland’s national holiday I will be fighting on. Brilliant. It is special.”
In the run-up to the fight, he has released a tantalising and frightening video, which should certainly whet the appetite of anyone hoping to watch the 25-year-old’s professional debut.
