That strange period between Christmas and New Year’s Eve left us all glued to the television to watch the World Darts Championship. Every Christmastime, the action from the Ally Pally draws in even the most casual of sports fans. This year is no different.
Tomorrow night, Phil Taylor bids to finish his career with a record 17th world title. In his way stands Rob Cross, who shocked Michael Van Gerwen last night in an epic.
On the first evening of 2018, many of us are likely to sit down and watch the action unfold, hyped up by the usual Sky Sports hyperbole, as Dave Clark, Wayne Mardle et al break down the action.
Of course, Mardle and Co. have given us some memorable moments over the years, not least the tense interview with Phil Taylor after his win over Kevin Painter.
Given the seasonally inflated interest in darts this week, an older clip of Mardle has surfaced on social media, and is spreading virally. The five-time World Championship semi-finalist was interviewed following a loss to Co Stompe during his playing career, and was unaware that the cameras were rolling, as he gave the presenter a blunt and honest assessment.
This is brilliant.
