AP McCoy Confirmed To Speak At One-Zero Conference In Croke Park

One-Zero 2017 is fast approaching, and there is a star-studded line-up in store. With Frank Bruno, Hope Solo and Paul Merson already confirmed as key note speakers, it has today been announced that jockey AP McCoy will be speaking, moderated by bookmaker Paddy Power.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest jockeys of all-time, AP McCoy will be speaking at Croke Park on October 17th. The legendary horse-man will be in conversation with Paddy Power as they discuss his glittering career, his transition into retirement and his role as a television pundit.

In total he rode 4,358 winners throughout a glittered career, and remarkably, he was Champion Jockey in Britain every year of his 20-year professional career spanning from 1995 to his retirement in 2015.

Among those thousands of winners, McCoy won all of the sport’s biggest races including the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the Champion Hurdle, the Queen Mother Champion Chase, the King George VI Chase and the most famous race of them all, the Aintree Grand National, which he won riding Don’t Push It in 2010. It was his fifteenth attempt to win the race.

His achievements on the racecourse have been widely recognised off it. He became the first jockey to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2010 and won the RTÉ equivalent in 2013. He was knighted in 2016 by the Queen of England in her New Year’s Honours list for services to racing.

Speaking ahead of today’s announcement AP McCoy said; “As a sports fan I enjoy talking about sport – whether that’s races or matches. There are always thousands of different perspectives and I think that’s the beauty of sport; we all experience it differently.  It will be great to share my experiences at Croke Park and to hear the different perspectives on the changing world of sport.”

Paddy Power is also looking forward to One-Zero.

“AP McCoy is one of the greatest sportsmen ever, it’s an honour to get the opportunity to pick his brains, even though I’ll feel very inadequate by the end of the session!  I know he’s incredibly driven, but I want to know why and how he could keep his hunger to be Champion Jockey for twenty consecutive years.  Besides, he cost us bookies a fortune over the years so I can’t wait to get my hands on him!”
