Watch: Sarah Healy Powers Home To A Second Gold Medal At European Championships

Sarah Healy has secured her second gold medal of this year’s U18 European Championships after injecting some serious pace in her 1,500m final to win by a huge distance.

Healy led the pack with about 300m to go and at that point, she upped the gears to steamroll ahead of the chasing field to secure a gold medal in another championship record of 4:18.71.

Healy won the 3,000m gold on Friday and it caps an excellent week for Irish underage athletics after Sophie O’Sullivan and Rhasidat Adeleke won silver and gold medals in the 800m and 200m, respectively.

“Yeah definitely I decided to take it on, well just to go to the front after the first lap because I thought I’d stay out of trouble and speed it up and take the kick out of other people’s legs,” Healy said after her latest gold medal triumph.

“I just want to say thanks to my Mum and Dad, and my coach because I definitely couldn’t have done it without them.”
