A press release from Shane Ross congratulating Sanita Puspure on her gold medal in the single sculls event of the World Rowing Championships has come in for criticism due to the simple fact that it called Puspure by the wrong name.
It’s been a fantastic two days for Ireland at World Rowing Championships. Paul and Gary O’Donovan won gold in their double sculls event yesterday and the good times kept coming this morning as Puspure finished first and secured gold in her final of the single sculls event.
However, the press release from the Minister of Transport, Tourism and Sport called Puspure, ‘Dominant Puspure’ although her first name is Sanita.
The mistake seems to be because whoever wrote the press release, believed that ‘Dominant’ was Puspure’s first name due to RTÉ Sport’s headline where they referenced Puspure’s dominant display in her final where she stormed home to a gold medal as she led the race from very early on.
Here is the press release.
The RTÉ Sport headline originally read ‘Dominant Puspure powers to world gold for Ireland’.
