Sunday is shaping to be a very exciting race.

Charles Leclerc is set to start in pole position in Sunday’s Grand Prix in Barcelona after an excellent performance in Saturday’s qualifier.

After a spin in Q3, Leclerc recovered to make sure he will start Sunday’s race with an advantage ahead of Max Verstappen who will begin in second place.

Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz will start the race in third, while Mercedes’ George Russell did very well to grab fourth position with a strong race.

Charles Leclerc in pole position

Leclerc showed great composure to ensure he secured pole position, and will now be the favourite for Sunday’s race, over Verstappen.

Speaking during the race, Verstappen said that he felt as though the Red Bull car was struggling with some tyre issues, and a problem with power.

On one occasion, the Dutchman could be heard telling his Red Bull team that he had no power.

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner spoke after the race about the car situation, and how he sees Sunday’s race going.

He said: “It wasn’t actually power in the end, it was DRS that didn’t open. Obviously we’ll need to get the car back to understand.

“I don’t think we had enough today to beat Charles’ lap. It was a great lap by him under pressure, and I’m still pleased with a front row start.

“In these temperatures, it’s all about tyre degradation and tyre management, so it’s going to be a fascinating race.”

He concluded: “These things tend to happen… Unfortunately they’ve hit us at inconvenient times. But as a team we’re working hard to understand the issue. It may be as simple as a piece of rubber getting stuck in the mechanism!”
