Watch: Another Medal For Ireland As Sommer Lecky Takes Silver In High Jump

Sommer Lecky has become Ireland’s latest medalist at the U20 IAAF World Championships in Finland, winning silver in the high jump competition.

The Finn Valley club woman cruised through the qualifying round during the week and set a new national U20’s record of 1.87 metres earlier this morning.

She followed that up with a personal best of 1.90m to take the lead in the finals in Finland with seven jumpers remaining. That jump guaranteed her a medal.

Lecky placed second behind Karyna Taranda of Belarus.

Her leap now means the 17-year-old has qualified for the European Athletics Championship in Berlin in August.
