Further Medal Hope For Ireland As Ciara Mageean Powers To 1500m Final

Ireland’s Ciara Mageean has qualified for the final of the 1500m event, finishing second in her semi-final this morning.

Following on from Phil Healy’s strong display on the track this morning, Mageean powered home in a time of 4:09:35.

She was positioned fourth coming around the final bend but comfortably upped the pace in the home stretch to ease into a qualifying position behind Laura Muir of Great Britain.

Speaking to RTE Sport after the race, Mageean explained how she feels happy and comfortable in her form again following her move to Manchester this year.

The Co. Down woman now has two days to rest and recover before the 1500m final on Sunday evening and she will be hopeful of a second medal for Team Ireland at the European Athletics Championships.
