Watch: Phil Taylor’s Career Continues As He Holds Off Gary Anderson

Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor’s potential fairytale retirement is still on track – as the 16-time world champion held off Gary Anderson to reach the semi-finals of the PDC World Darts Championship.

Following up from last night’s impressive 4-0 dismantling of Keegan Brown, ‘The Power’ once again rolled back the years on the Alexandra Palace stage, seeing off the former champion on a scoreline of 5-3.

Taylor started the match in impressive fashion, comfortably taking the first set. Anderson however, got on the board by taking the second set with an excellent 101.

‘The Power’ then regained the lead in the third, taking three successive legs to move into a 2-1 lead, before taking advantage of some complacency from Anderson to come from two legs down to seal the fourth set and move to a 3-1 advantage.

And Taylor was equally as ruthless in the aftermath; reeling off three more successive legs with a ton finish to move within a set of the semis.

Anderson refused to go down without a fight, breaking Taylor’s throw to take the sixth set and make it 4-2.

Taylor then broke the Scotsman to take the first leg of the seventh set, before Anderson returned the favour. However, a stunning 126 checkout brought ‘The Power’ within a leg of the semis.

Anderson levelled the set at 2-2, before taking it to force pressure on ‘The Power’ at 4-3. A 112 checkout from Anderson in the eighth added further pressure, but Taylor held his own to throw for the match – missing D20 before his opponent again levelled the scores.

Taylor made no mistake at the next time of asking, taking the match on a scoreline of 5-3 to keep alive his dreams of an astonishing 17th World title.

He will now face Jamie Lewis in tomorrow’s semi-finals, in what is sure to be a pulsating encounter – after the Welsh qualifier impressively saw off Darren Webster 5-0.

Could Lewis be the one to bury ‘The Power’? Or will Taylor go out on a high?

We can hardly wait to find out.
