Watch: Adrian Lewis Knocked Out Of PDC World Darts Championship By Qualifier

You know it’s Christmas time when the darts are on – and this year’s edition of the PDC World Darts Championship has thrown up plenty of surprises so far.

With notable figures such as James Wade, Dave Chisnall, Mervyn King, Jelle Klaasen and Mark Webster already sent packing, Tuesday night’s action threw up one of the shocks of the tournament so far – as two-time champion Adrian Lewis was defeated 3-1 by qualifier Kevin Munch.

Munch began the evening’s entertainment by seeing off Alexsandr Oreshkin 2-0 in the preliminary round to set up his meeting with Lewis. Routine victories then followed for John Henderson and Raymond Van Barneveld respectively, before the German returned to the oche.

It seemed as if Lewis would prevail as expected after he took the first set, a 121 checkout providing a timely reminder of his talent. Munch however, had plans of his own. The German cruised into a shock 2-1 lead, producing seven 180’s and a beautiful 158 finish.

A stunning 124 finish put Munch 2-1 up in the fourth set and left him needing just one more leg for the victory. Lewis managed to hold his throw in the fourth leg, but Munch subsequently took out a double eight to secure one of the most memorable shocks in recent darting history.

The excitement is gradually building at the Alexandra Palace, as the big names continue to tumble.
