On the Irish soccer scene, Cork City FC did the double, as John Caulfield’s side won the LOI Premier Division for the third time, along with the FAI Cup.

The Irish showjumping team earned a gold medal at the European Championships in Gothenburg, while the rowing duo of Shane O’Driscoll and Mark O’Donovan won the gold medal in the lightweight mens’ pair category at the World Rowing Championship.
