The 2017 RTÉ Sports Awards show will play host to a category that is jam-packed with deserving contenders.

They are joined by the Galway hurling team who won the Liam MacCarthy Cup after a 29 year wait, and the Cork camogie side who claimed the O’Duffy Cup at Kilkenny’s expense.
On the Irish soccer scene, Cork City FC did the double, as John Caulfield’s side won the LOI Premier Division for the third time, along with the FAI Cup.
The Irish showjumping team earned a gold medal at the European Championships in Gothenburg, while the rowing duo of Shane O’Driscoll and Mark O’Donovan won the gold medal in the lightweight mens’ pair category at the World Rowing Championship.
The winner will be decided by a public vote which is to take place on and be announced next Saturday night.
