Fans were treated to an absolute classic as Mark Williams saw off John Higgins to take home his third World Snooker Championship title.
What a night we were treated to at the World Snooker Championships as Mark Williams managed to take home the win in the most dramatic of fashions after rising above a late comeback attempt from his opponent, John Higgins.
Williams led 14-7 at one point during the night’s action but against all odds, the unshakeable Higgins managed to pull things back to an even 15-15 before his adversary was able to pull away once more, sealing the deal at 18-16.

It really was a stunning end to a riveting contest and directly after things were through, the world of Twitter erupted in praise for both men and the show they put on.

How many players could have made a break like that, under pressure, after what John Higgins did in the previous frame? Huge congratulations to Mark Williams. World Champion for the third time. #bothlegends

Mark Williams confirms the out-of-touch snooker elite stereotype. “I watched last year in a caravan having a few beers”

'Did you think these days were gone?"
Mark Williams: 'Yes. I wasn't here last year. I was watching in a caravan having a few beers.'
One of the greatest comebacks ever. Congrats Mark Williams. #SnookerWorldChamps
