Ahead of the UFC’s first huge event of 2015, focus on Jon Jones V Daniel Cormier has shifted towards the UFC’s featherweight division at a recent press conference in Las Vegas.
When asked about the upcoming bout between Dubliner Conor McGregor and Denis Siver in Boston later this month, UFC president Dana White confirmed that if McGregor wins this fight, he’s fighting for the title.
“This fight is in Boston, if he wins this fight, he’s going to fight for the title. I don’t know where yet.”
While this news may not come as a huge shock to most, it has certainly not been greeted with open arms by former lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar who recently put on a clinic against Cub Swanson.
Edgar took to Twitter recently pushing for a main event slot on national television this coming April against Jose Aldo.
It’s clear now that this is not looking likely with Dana White’s recent comments. However, White is playing down any notion that McGregor is going to beat Siver easily.
“Nobody thought he was going to beat Poirier, but now he’s just going to walk through Siver? I don’t ever f-cking count the chickens until they hatch, believe me, because anything can happen in this sport. So we’ll see what happens.”
McGregor V Siver takes place in Boston on January 18th.
