White Reveals How Much He Thinks McGregor Will Earn For Mayweather Bout

On Wednesday, Dana White went on The Herd with Colin Cowherd to talk about the proposed showdown between his fighter Conor McGregor and boxing’s former pound for pound number one Floyd Mayweather Jr.

White, who was originally more dismissive of the McGregor/Mayweather talk than just about anyone, has come around to the idea of the cross-codes clash in recent times, claiming that he is dedicated to making it a reality because of a loyalty and respect for McGregor.

In an interview with TMZ earlier this week, the UFC president stated that the fight was still “not close” to being done, but that things were “progressing”. In a subsequent sidewalk symposium with the same entertainment media outlet, he added that the bout “is probably going to happen”.

Speaking to Cowherd, White went into much greater detail regarding the negotiations and where they are at present. In fact, the pugnacious 47-year-old provided us with more information on what is going on behind the scenes than we have been privy to at any other point in this lengthy saga.

He even attempted to estimate what each fighter might earn from the bout, which will take place under boxing rules.

“I think we get the McGregor side in the next couple of days,” White said. “And then I go lock myself in a room for a couple days with Team Mayweather and see what we can come out with.”

“It depends on how much the fight sells,” he added. “And if the fight sells as well as I think it can, Floyd makes a little north of $100 (million) and Conor makes $75 (million).”

“He (Mayweather) feels like he’s the A-side and he should get more of it. We haven’t really gotten into that negotiation yet. I wanted to get McGregor locked in first, because McGregor is under contract with me. And at the end of the day, does this fight make a ton of sense for me? It really doesn’t. But Conor wants this thing really bad and I’ve said it many times, the kid’s stepped up and saved some big fights for me, man, so I’m in. I’ll figure it out.”

“Obviously, in boxing, you start to negotiate things like the gloves and the officials and the judges and how big the ring is — a lot of different things you can negotiate as far as the fight goes. But again, I haven’t gotten into a room with Team Mayweather yet, and who knows. The Conor side, we’re good on the Conor side. I need to figure out the Mayweather side, and maybe it can’t be (figured out). Maybe the other side can’t be done, but we’ll see. I promised Conor I’d do everything I could to make this thing happen, so that’s what I’m going to do(Transcription via MMAFighting).”

There is obviously still a long way to go, but with White seemingly on a mission, this fight is looking very likely indeed.
