In recent weeks Jimi Manuwa has been talking about fighting the winner of Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones 2 and even a possible McGregor-esque transition into the boxing ring for a bout with countryman David Haye.
Perhaps Manuwa took his eye off of the ball and off of Volkan Oezdemir. Big mistake.
On Saturday at UFC 214, Oezdemir blasted Manuwa to smithereens in just 42 seconds. Some beautiful dirty boxing from Oezdemir was the beginning of the end, a short left hook rocking Manuwa and sending him backpedaling across the octagon. Another left hook, this time of the longer variety, landed as Manuwa tried to escape Oezdemir’s rush and the British light-heavyweight was sent careening to the floor, off of which he banged the back of his head. Several more heavy shots followed before referee Jason Herzog intervened.
What a start to the main card! 😱

This is the third straight fight in which Oezdemir has caused a huge upset. He topped Ovince St. Preux in his promotional debut back in February, before starching the highly-touted Misha Cirkunov in just 28 seconds last time out.
After dusting Manuwa, Oezdemir spoke with Joe Rogan and somewhat unsurprisingly called out the winner of Cormier vs. Jones 2. After this win, the 27-year-old Swiss fighter will certainly be in the conversation for a title shot. And all of this after just three fights and six months in the UFC.
