Watch: SBG Ireland Fighter Brutally But Controversially KO’d On Bellator Debut

Luka Jelčić rode a significant wave of momentum into his Bellator MMA debut in Florence, Italy on Saturday night, but the SBG Ireland lightweight wiped out in brutal fashion against Brandon Girtz.

The 28-year-old Jelčić had won four straight fights, all inside the distance, ahead of Bellator 190 and he had claimed the FFC lightweight title in the process. In his previous fight, ‘The Hitman’ needed just 75 seconds to dispatch Roberto Pastuch with one of the most ground and pound finishes of the year. Against Bellator veteran Girtz, however, it was Jelčić who was stopped in double-quick time. The Croatian was felled and finished just one minute and 57 seconds into the very first round.

The finish was not without controversy though, as at least one of the shots in Girtz’s conclusive barrage seemed to connect with the back of Jelčić’s head.

After the fight, a frustrated Jelčić called for a rematch via Twitter.

“Fuck those rabbit shots to the back of the head, I want my fight back,” wrote Jelčić underneath MMAFighting journalist Peter Carroll’s post about the KO.

Jelčić subsequently posted the following screenshot to support his claim.

In a longer post on his Instagram account, Jelčić later alleged that he had taken “two shots” to the back of the head and that he was fighting on “autopilot” from that point on.

“THANK YOU everyone for your support and all the messages, from my teammates, coaches, friends and family, to everyone who knows me or appreciates my work,” wrote the fighter. “I got clipped with two shots to the back of my head and was fighting on autopilot from that moment on, it’s the way it is, I don’t expect mercy neither do I give it, I go out with my shield or on my shield, and that will never change. A big THANK YOU goes out to my loyal Team Of Sponsors for their support making my life better doing what I love to do. I will take some time off for the holidays with my fiance and our families and I will be back better as I always did.”
