Northern Ireland’s Rhys McKee scored the fifth win of his so far perfect professional career and scooped the Londsdale lightweight title in the process, as he destroyed the previously undefeated Jai Herbert in the very first round at BAMMA 27 in Dublin’s 3Arena on Friday night.
Herbert was giving McKee serious problems early on, backing ‘Skeletor’ up with regularity and landing some ferocious kicks to the rangy youngster’s body. However, McKee seems to carry game-changing punching power. Each of his three previous victims had fallen to strikes inside the distance and Herbert suffered that same fate.
A volley of McKee punches mainly missed their target but forced Herbert to retreat, and once his back hit the cage, the Englishman ate a savage left-hand that dropped him to the canvas with a thud. A follow-up barrage from McKee inspired a timely intervention from the referee.
