In March of 2010 Nate Diaz stepped into the octagon to take on Rory Markham in a catchweight bout.
Although Nate has spent the majority of his UFC career fighting in the lightweight division, at UFC 111 in New Jersey, the younger Diaz brother stepped into the octagon to essentially take on a middleweight.
Markham missed weight by over seven pounds when trying to make the welterweight limit and, after Diaz defeated him in the very first round, the American was released by the UFC having lost two of his opening three bouts with the promotion.
Watching the fight backstage, Dana White seemed in awe of Nate’s TKO win given the fact that he was fighting a man who was so much bigger than he was.
Nate Diaz is a real fighter man… Wow. Nate stepped up and took that fight when he knew the guy was ten pounds heavier than him. Took the fight anyway and ends up stopping him in the very first round.
Given the ongoing stand off between the UFC President and Diaz, it is interesting to watch the footage in question as MMA fans wonder if a solution will ever be found that will see Nate making a comeback in the UFC.
