Fight week is ticking towards a close and UFC 217 on Saturday night is now well and truly in our grasp.
The return of Georges Saint-Pierre appears to be the focal selling point of this card. The former king of the welterweight division hasn’t fought since 2013 but is on the comeback trail with the middleweight title in his sights.
In saying this, Michael Bisping is doing utmost to ensure his spotlight is not stolen from him by his opponent.
Bisping has a storied MMA career and has worked his entire life to this point where he headlines the most stacked and highly anticipated UFC card of the year at Madison Square Garden as the defending 185 lbs champ. His trash talk in the direction of GSP throughout the build up to this weekend has been relentless in an attempt to derail the focus of the returning legend.
The Englishman intends to be the star of the show come Saturday night and although the legitimacy of Saint-Pierre jumping the whole queue of middleweights to earn a crack at the belt has been questioned, there is no doubt that it will be a stern contest.
Throughtout fight week we have been afforded glimpses of the competitors attracting UFC fans from around the world to New York this weekend. At the open workouts for the main event, Bisping stole the show as he grabbed the mic from UFC correspondent Megan Olivi and took control of the famed arena as fans cheered, heckled and even had questions responded to by the champ.
