Matt Brown pulls no punches when discussing how he feels about Donald Cerrone.

MMA fan favourites “The Immortal” (20-15-0) and “Cowboy” (31-7-0) squared off in an intense staredown prior to their fight on Saturday night in Toronto.

The MMA Hour’s Ariel Helwani captured the moment when both men took to the stage. Cerrone, kitted out in his trademark cowboy hat and slick black leather coat, had an attempted handshake rejected by a clearly incensed Brown.

The welterweights will clash at UFC 206 in Toronto on Saturday night, in a fight which is now bound to further stoke fans’ interest.

While Cerrone is a popular figure in the MMA circuit, Brown (courtesy of MMA Junkie) was vocal in his acrimony towards his opponent:

“I don’t care for his personality. Even when I talked to him, I didn’t really want to talk to him. I was just being cordial.

“I don’t have any good feelings towards him at all. I don’t like the way he acts. I don’t like the way he carries himself. I don’t like the way he represents the sport.”

When asked how he felt about going up against a “former friend and training partner”, the older of the two warriors said:

“He [Cerrone] is not a friend; he has never been a friend. I trained with him once, maybe two times.”

What the cause is behind the 170-pound veteran’s dislike of his opponent in unknown, but he certainly pulled no punches when asked of his opinions on the ex-lightweight contender:

“You can see the way he talks, he wants to be an alpha male and he wants to portray that he’s something special. I think it’s all these yes men he got around him: I think he’s just being lied to by them telling him, ‘Oh Donald, you’re the champion, man! You’re so good!’ You’re so great! You’re going to be this and that.’ When really… he’s just being lied to.

“It’s my job to come in there and expose that truth of him. Most of my opponents I am really respectful to, and (I think) they are respectful to me. I don’t know if he means it or not. Maybe he’s just a douchebag of a person. I get the feeling when he’s talking to other fighters, he feels like he is above other fighters. He’s a bully.”

Tempers look set to flare between the two inside the octagon, in what could potentially be the fight of the night in Canada on Saturday.
