In the latest installment of the ‘will-they-wont-they’ story that is a potential superfight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, legendary boxing promoter Bob Arum and once again rubbished any such notions.
In the last week Mayweather has offered McGregor $15 million plus a pay-per-view percentage. This was countered by UFC president Dana White with a $25 million payday for each fighter.
Following this, Mayweather laughed off White’s offer, much to the annoyance of White. So after all this, things have come full circle and any match-up between the biggest names in boxing and MMA is still no closer to reality.
Now, in an effort to anchor this saga to the real world, legendary boxing promoter Bob Arum has called it all ‘a game’ by Dana White.
Speaking to TMZ Sport, Arum emphasises that either fighter would be destroyed if they stepped into the world of the other fighter. He also points out that since McGregor is contracted to the UFC, White is attempting to control the story.
However, Arum insists that there is no fight on the horizon as Mayweather will simply not be interested in a $25 million purse, simply because he can earn more elsewhere in a legitimate contest with another boxer.
Take a look.
While Arum has no involvement with the ongoing back and forth between Mayweather, McGregor and White and is therefore not privy to any behind closed doors discussions that may or may not be going on, you have to take his opinion at face value.
The promoter makes a very simple and sensible point with regard to the chances either fighter would have in the others domain and on that point alone, you have to wonder if he is correct that this story is all just a merry dance orchestrated by the UFC supremo?
