Having pulled out of UFC 209 on the day before the event, Khabib Nurmagomedov has some work to do to earn the admiration of MMA fans once again.
The Russian has been booked to take on Tony Ferguson on three separate occasions without the fight ever actually taking place. However, Nurmagomedov still feels that a bout with ‘El Cucuy’ is the biggest possible fight that the UFC can book in the 155 lbs division.
Despite the fact that Conor McGregor is still officially the promotion’s lightweight champion and a bout between the Irishman and Tony Ferguson has been repeatedly mooted, Khabib stated that McGregor is ‘not a lightweight fighter’.
Speaking about his upcoming bout with Edson Barboza at UFC 219, Nurmagomedov also stated that once his next win is in the books, he will look to finally get inside the Octagon with Tony Ferguson early next year and seemed to doubt that McGregor will ever return to defend his belt.
