Watch: Irish Fighter Stops Punching Opponent To Tell Ref The Fight Is Clearly Over

“Had to stop the fight myself because the ref seemed to want me to kill the guy.”

There were some dreadful scenes in an MMA event in Malta over the weekend as Irish MMA veteran, Ben Davis, took on Ruslam Malsam in a bantamweight bout at Centurnion FC 1.

Davis (6-5) eventually won the bout in the first round via TKO. However, it took some very unconventional means to eventually see the referee stopping the contest.

Pounding his opponent on the canvas for what seemed like an eternity, some dismal refereeing saw the fight carry on far longer than it should have. In fact, Davis was eventually forced to stop punching his opponent and look to the ref in disbelief for the official to eventually step in.

With Irish MMA seriously marred by the tragic passing of Joao Carvalho back in April of 2016, it is truly troubling to see officiating of this standard taking place in 2017.
