Speaking ahead of his UFC 205 bout with Conor McGregor, Eddie Alvarez stated on multiple occasions that there was an ‘easy way’ to beat the Irishman.
The ‘Underground King’ also went on to claim that McGregor could be disposed of so simply that it would leave people wondering what the big fuss was about him in the first place.
However, when the fight actually got under way, it was Alvarez who looked completely out of his depth with McGregor knocking the American to the canvas on several occasions before eventually finishing him in the second round of their championship bout.
Perhaps most ironically, the finish came via a maneuver that Alvarez had frequently referenced in the build-up to the fight, stating that he would easily neutralize it when they entered the cage.
‘He’s just a guy with a left hand. That’s it. He does something in boxing that we call a ‘rock back’. He does it well but, this is something very simple. This is a move that’s very easily taken away.’
