A spine-tingling new promo for the intriguing lightweight scenario that is due to unfold in 2018 is making huge waves online…
After Tony Ferguson claimed the interim lightweight title at UFC 216 back in October, Dana White seemed certain that Conor McGregor would finally make his return to the Octagon against ‘El Cucuy’ in December.
However, with negotiations between the MMA promotion and its biggest star seemingly hitting a standstill, Khabib Nurmagomedov was named to take on Edson Barboza at UFC 219 with McGregor and Ferguson lying in wait.
When the event finally got underway, the Russian put in what was arguably the most dominant performance of the year – absolutely battering the highly rated Barboza for the entirety of their three-round contest.
Given the emphatic nature of his victory, McGregor couldn’t help but engage in some social warfare with the undefeated Russian, leaving many wondering if the Irishman was more interested in fighting Nurmagomedov than the interim champion – Tony Ferguson.
Speaking about the somewhat complex scenario, Dana White clarified the situation, explaining how things are likely going to unfold in the coming months.
“As long as Conor is willing to fight by March, we could do Khabib versus Tony and then the winner fights Conor for the title,” White said. “Or, if Conor wants to sit out until next fall, then we’d have to make Khabib versus Tony for the title, not the interim title.”
On the back of the UFC President’s comments, an incredible new promo has been released promoting the unprecedented title scenario and you can check it out below.
