To those outside of Ireland, John Kavanagh is most widely known as Conor McGregor’s coach. However, in his home country, Kavanagh is not only known as the founder and head of SBG, he is often referred to as “The Godfather” of mixed martial arts.

Kavanagh was the first man in Ireland to receive a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and at just 40 years of age, some have wondered why the man himself never had a stab at the UFC.

In actual fact, Kavanagh did have a pro MMA career once upon a time with the Dubliner hanging up his gloves and turning to coaching back in 2003.

According to the normally reliable Sherdog.com, the fight below took place at Cage Wars 1 in 2002 and was only Kavanagh’s third professional bout. His opponent was named Tamel Hasar and, well, we won’t ruin it for you…
