The UFC 207 main card is a thing of absolute beauty.
It’s headlined by the return of Ronda Rousey and her attempt to regain the UFC women’s bantamweight title from the extremely dangerous Amanda Nunes, but also features a rematch of former UFC heavyweight kingpins Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez, as well as an exciting clash of highly-rated bantamweights TJ Dillashaw and John Lineker.
Perhaps the most interesting style match-up on the December 30th show, though, is the UFC bantamweight title fight between elusive master of movement Dominick Cruz and pure puncher Cody Garbrandt.
This is also a fight dripping with personal animosity.
Cruz, of course, has had a longstanding feud with the challenger’s mentor Urijah Faber, so there was always likely to be hostility between he and Garbrandt in the build-up.
Backstage at UFC 202 in August, before the bout was even made official, there was some sort of confrontation between between the fighters, which had to be broken up by UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. There has also been some back and forth on social media, with Garbrandt’s girlfriend even getting involved at one point.
But when Cruz and Garbrandt were brought together last night at UFC on Fox 22 in Sacramento, things really got heated. Cruz began questioning Garbrandt’s chin, while ‘No Love’ claimed that ‘The Dominator’ has “pillows” for hands. Most of the time, the men were jabbering simultaneously, trying desperately to shout the other down.
It was intense stuff and you can watch it below…
